Happy Sunday all.
Stuff:
A: Hubby woke up this a.m. with a bad head cold: darn and &#@^%$ (I don't like to swear publicly).... 1) I hate to see him sick; 2) I'll probably get it and 3) I was hoping for his help painting today (selfish...I know)....but I really do hate to see him sick.
My brother left vm on our phone yesterday; checking in to say hi and He sounded like he's got a bad cold....so I'm calling him today to blame him for infecting my hubby.
B: I'm painting a spare bedroom today. I bought a bedspread/pillow shams I've been checking out for over a year now. They are an 'old fashioned' quilted style. I never expected to like such design but have come around to the home-i-ness of this one; and love the color combination: pinks/greens. After visiting it at the store for a year I finally bought it. I'll post picture in a few days....after painting is done.
C: Spent all day yesterday with Daughter in a birthing class taught by a Doula. We learned some neat moves/tricks to try and help her thru labor. Everything I learned can be quickly taught to her hubby upon his arrival home; soon. Yay. The instructor was knowledgeable, interesting to listen to, has a great teaching style and fun personality. Fun fun day. Daughter and I had dinner out afterwards and it was good to 'catch up'. Soon she'll be a Mommy. I'm excited for her because that is a role I have loved.
D: I need to Scrapbook!!!!!!!!! missing it badly. After this spare bedroom is done and I rearrange my Crafting room I can get back at it. I'll have a new subject to scrapbook soon. Granddaughter.
ok, Bye for now. Have a good Sunday and make the day count.

Garage Sale Friday
Well it's Friday; garage sale day for Hubby and I, but no sales around here. It's still winter. I checked Craig's List and there is nothing worth going to.
I thought I'd share with you today two items we found in 2009. One at a garage sale and the other off Craig's List.
This beautiful, well stitched picture below was found at a garage sale by me. I have done a lot of Stitching and appreciate a well stitched and well framed picture.
The man was selling some his wife's work. I paid $20 for this. I know from experience the framing cost 3 times that. I love this picture.... The back of it has a tiny label that says it was framed at Sew and Saw Crafts in Quezon City, Philippines. I wished I'd noticed that before I left that garage sale as I like the 'story' of items and that would have been a fun one to hear.
This is going to be hung in our spare bedroom I'm 'redoing'. I wrote on the back of it "purchased at a garage sale in 2009". I don't want my children to think I did it; not because I'd be ashamed of it....just like them to know what I have and have not stitched that I own. I do sign my pieces with my first name in thread.

This is what it looked like last Christmas. It's sitting empty now waiting for me to fill it up. I see I have to wash the glass first.......lol!

This cabinet was found on Craig's List last year by Hubby. He was clicking around Craig's List and said "come look at this". I did and we called immediately. The seller was surprised we called "so soon", as he's just listed it about two minutes before we called. Sight unseen, we said "we'll buy it". He wanted $20 for it....great bargain.

We've found a few other nice items that I'll share in the future.
Bye for now. Have a good day and weekend. Do a kind deed.

There is a Sun
Thank you Mother Nature for the Sunshine this morning - it has been a week at least since we've seen her. The weather reports say it's suppose to be partially sunny/rainy for the next three days then full out rain: again!
I've not been feeling well for a week and upon waking this a.m. (9ish) I was so pleased to see blue skies and sunshine - certainly picked my mood up....had to run outside in my pink fuzzy bathrobe and slippers to take a picture of the rhodies in the back yard soaking up the sunshine. I could hear them whispering "thank you, thank you." They will be abloom in three months with white and deep purple flowers. I stood in the sun for about 5 minutes........ahhhhhhhhh.
The other plant (name I've forgotten right now) has an interesting look to it in winter when it is 'summer dead'. I always leave it until February and then trim it: which is about now. If you look closely you can see the new green stalks just showing at the base (and a pesky weed).......yes; spring is coming.

Good Will Wednesday
Good morning my friends.
Hubby found this duck at the Good Will recently. When he showed it to me I said "oh that's just Ducky.".... see, I can be eye-rolling witty also!
I think it’s an interesting piece. We’ve decided that it is hand painted and I think it’s quite pretty. I can say that he is a quiet pet - not a quack out of him yet.
As you can see there is a tag on him: “Made In Italy”. Now one does not know if that is the real fact though. That paper label could have been put on by anyone....
and that is a problem in the 'collecting world'.
I believe that all imported glass/china/porcelain items should have to be marked with country of origin in some other way than a paper or plastic label. I think the “Made In…” country should have to be embossed into item or painted on before item is ‘fired’ so it is permanent.
A friend once told me that (in regards to collecting glass) "you have to know what is new in order to know what is old." So one has to not only study books about old glass one has to take a look at the markets today to see what is being produced and imported. Shopping has never been so fun!

Wise as an owl
Madder than a wet hen
Light as a feather
Jaywalking
My little chickadee
Naked as a jaybird
Nest egg
Like water off a duck’s back
Something worth crowing about
Hen party
Eagle eye
Don’t count your chickens before they hatch
Stuffed like a Christmas goose
Run around like a chicken with its head cut off
The goose that laid the golden egg

So.....speaking of 'Figurative' speech: the saying "just Ducky"; you probably know, means 'just fine' or 'just great'. Figurative (animal) language is fun. Here are a few I thought of on my own:
I have a frog in my throat
She has a bee in her bonnet
He has ants in his pants
She clammed up
So I cheated and got on the Internet to find more:
Wise as an owl
Madder than a wet hen
Light as a feather
Jaywalking
My little chickadee
Naked as a jaybird
Nest egg

All these sayings sound 'old fashioned' don't they? They sound like they came from the days of Big Family farms and 'Mayberry' days.....I can't imagine a person under 60 using one of them.
Can you
ok, Bye for now and may your day be just ducky and don't jaywalk or count your chickens before they hatch my little chickadees. ;-)

It's the Little Things.....
Good Morning.
In the process of reorganizing a spare bedroom I came across a piece of hand stitched Hardanger I did about 15 years ago. I never 'did' anything with it. I originally planned to stitch it onto a needle holder I was going to make. Now I'm not so sure what I'll do with it.
An internet friend told me to scan it and use it on a Layout about all the pieces I've stitched in my life....I like that idea; will do it.
Anyhow....this Hardanger piece is not big; 4" x 7".
I recently purchased a small stool to keep in our Living Room. I bought it at an Antique Show from some friends (a Mr. and Mrs.). The crewel top was stitched by the 101 year old Mother of the Mr. She stitched when she was 97. Being the family has an abundance of items she has stitched they felt comfortable about selling one. I was thrilled to buy it. It is not big.
So this got me to looking around my house yesterday and realizing I have some 'not big' items that I love; and here are a few:
The stool is 9" high and 12x15":

This is the Hardanger piece: 4x7"

A belated Christmas present from my Friend I saw yesterday. It is a 7" long tray in the china pattern called Old Country Roses. I have a full set with side pieces of OCR (she knows that you see...) and she bought this for me to keep my eyeglasses in on my nightstand. I used it last night and this morning when reached for my glasses they didn't 'scoot' away from me. It works and thank you dear friend.

Little things I love not pictured here:
The four sentence email I received yesterday from my Son.
Puppies and kitties
Babies
The fact that it didn't rain yesterday
A slip of paper with the words "I Love You" written on it, recently, by Hubby, for me
I leave you now - thinking of all the Little Things you Love....
Bye. Have a good day.

Scrapbooking Monday
Happy February.
Today I share with you my very first layouts I did when started this hobbie in 2005. These are two layouts I did of our first day in Italy in 2004, when we visited our daughter studying there.
I am currently NOT scrapbooking; unfortunately. I am in the middle of reorganizing my crafting/sewing space and; oh mercy! I have decided to move my two sewing machines into a small bedroom and that will free up space in my Crafting room.
We ‘Paper Players’ can have a lot…..and a lot of other stuff. I can’t hurry this process as I want to ‘get it right’; at least so it’s 'right' for awhile. I’m still shopping for another table(s). After I decide on that I can get serious about moving stuff around. I'm excited to 'be done'...then back to scrapping. I'm going thru withdrawal.

She did not come home for Christmas '03 and made a Christmas celebration for us the day we arrived in Florence Italy, in late February. When she met us at the airport in Florence she had a rolling suitcase. After we got into our rented apartment she opened it and in there was the tiny tiny Christmas tree we'd mailed to her and presents for all of us….so thoughtful.
This layout shows our building and the view from our window. At the airport we grabbed two taxis and I gave our driver the address. That ride was the wildest I've ever had; scared me. The man stopped in front of a stone building and got out. There was no visible address but he said that was where we should go. He was right and I found the apartment number to buzz for admittance.
Bye for now and make Monday February 1, 2010 a great day. It's the only one you'll have this year.
